Education

Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);
  • Have graduated with a university degree.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Preferred Area of Study – Bachelor’s or master’s in international relations, International Development, Social Sciences, or related disciplines. Be enrolled in, or have completed, coursework in Data Analytics or Data Visualization.
  • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Insurance: The United Nations accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Therefore, candidates for the internship must show proof of valid regular as well as major medical insurance coverage.
  • Payment: The internship is home-based, full time and unpaid. Costs of travel and accommodation, as well as living expenses, are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
  • Internship Agreements: Applicants, when selected, will be required to sign the “UNEP/UNON/UN-Habitat Internship Agreement”. Interns must keep confidential and cannot publish any information obtained during the course of the internship, except with the explicit authorization of the United Nations Environment.

Work Experience

  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Conservation Strategist (Level D) 

Qualifications/special Skills

  • A University degree in human science, social science and natural science or a related subject is required.
  • At least 20 years of progressively responsible experience in natural resource management and biodiversity conservation is required.
  • Programme/project management and evaluation experience in the wildlife conservation is an advantage.

Skills

  • Strong networking and communications skills and proven skills in working with multiple parties and stakeholders is required.

Languages

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Working Knowledge of the French Language is desirable.
