Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • The Senior Journalist (Digital Producer) will generate new and creative treatments for digital and social platforms, particularly in text and video.
  • Present engagingly for news and current affairs websites and social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
  • Use editorial judgement, creativity and flair to make original and compelling visual content and also produce interesting graphics sequences.
  • Use knowledge of social and other trends to make informed decisions on upcoming stories.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

  • A proven track record of creative digital storytelling delivered to deadline.

Digital journalist

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • A Journalist on the BBC Digital News team will be expected to write sharp news stories or produce timely digital video – with rigour, context and flair. Tasks could range from jumping on breaking news to chasing leads and interviews to move a story on to researching and writing a sidebar. Journalists will monitor social media, search trends and audience data and use that to improve our storytelling and help us reach new audiences. Journalists will be expected to contribute ideas in editorial meetings around the most useful and creative approaches to our big stories, including the best formats and visual treatments. A key part of the role will be to work closely with BBC colleagues across Africa to ensure the best of their radio, TV and online content is prominent on the news website and relevant social media platforms.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
The successful candidate must have:

  • Recent experience of producing accurate, engaging and fast-paced news for digital audiences
  • A track record of generating original ideas and chasing leads to produce impactful stories
