The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) supports the United Nations and regional organizations, providing administrative and other essential services to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). It also offers joint and common services to other United Nations system organizations in Kenya, as applicable.
Position: Human Resource Assistant Intern

Responsibilities:
As an intern, your duties will include:
- Supporting the global internship management process.
- Maintaining files, schedules, materials, information, and related data.
- Assisting with induction processes and checkout briefings for national and international UNON, UNEP, and UN-Habitat interns.
- Supporting job opening processes, evaluating and screening applicants in line with eligibility criteria.
- Coordinating the onboarding and induction processes of new interns by helping recruitment managers with shortlisting candidates, scheduling interviews, and sending acceptance letters.
- Managing email correspondence, preparing contract extension, and renewal documents.
- Coordinating the exit process for interns.
- Conducting research and preparing statistical and qualitative reports, studies, and correspondence.
- Assisting with HR data analytics, presenting reports using data visualization tools, and communicating results and ideas to key decision-makers.
- Supporting research and development of statistical data models for analysis.
- Coordinating mandatory staff learning and assisting with training and certification processes for staff members.
- Participating in meetings and performing other tasks as assigned by the office.
Qualifications/Special Skills:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- Have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent degree.
Additional qualifications:
- Proficiency in standard software applications, such as the Microsoft Office Suite.
- A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals outlined in the UN Charter.
- Proven ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to understand and tolerate differing views.
Preferred Fields of Study:
- Human Resources Management, Administration, or related disciplines.
Additional Notes:
- Professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme. However, the field of study must be closely related to the internship being applied for.
- Applicants must either be in the final year of their first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. program or have recently completed one of these programs.
