The Delegation has the status of a diplomatic mission (Embassy or High Commission) and officially represents the European Union in Kenya. We promote the European Union’s (EU’s) values and interests, monitor the political, economic and commercial situation in the country and the region, oversee the various forms of cooperation

Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section (PPI)

Main tasks:

  • Actively contribute to the work of the Political, Press and Information Section at the EU Delegation to Kenya.
  • Under the guidance of the political adviser, follow Kenyan political trends and contribute to political reporting and analysis.
  • Contribute to the Delegation engagement with the Kenyan media.
  • Under the guidance of the Delegation Press and Information Officer, regularly update the Delegation website and social media accounts.
  • Support the Political, Press and Information Section in the design and layout of information material.
  • Fulfilling other duties, as required.

Qualifications or special requirements:

Political Press and Information Trainee:

  • Hold a university degree, and have a proven interest in the field of international relations, political sciences or journalism/media;
  • Have proven social media skills;
  • Be a team player and good communicator;
  • Familiarity with the way the EU works and general knowledge of Europe is a major advantage;
  • Knowledge of second European language besides English is an advantage.

Traineeship in the Head of Delegation Section, in Support of Relations with UNEP and UN Habitat

Main tasks:

  • Actively support the work of the Head of Delegation Section, related to engagement with UNEP and UN Habitat.
  • Under the guidance of the Deputy Permanent Representative (DPR) to UNEP and UN Habitat, follow developments at UNEO and UN Habitat, including participation in meetings of UNEP and when needed, UN Habitat.
  • Support the Deputy Permanent Representative in preparation of UN Environmental Assembly 6, including support with collection and analysis of information, screening of UNEP documents, contribution to development of meeting reports, preparation and engagement in the EU and MS coordination meetings.
  • When required, support the Political, Press and Information Section.

Qualifications or special requirements:

Head of Delegation Section, in support of relations with UNEP and UN Habitat:

  • Hold a university degree, and have proven interest in the field of international relations, political sciences or environmental sciences
  • Have proven analytical and drafting skills
  • Be a team player and good communicator
  • Familiarity with the way the EU works and general knowledge of Europe is a major advantage;
  • Familiarity with, studies in, or work experience with the UN system would be a strong advantage;
  • Knowledge of second European language besides English is an advantage.

Traineeship in the Cooperation section (COOP)

The Cooperation Section is in charge of EU-Kenya partnership and cooperation in line with the EU-Kenya Multiannual Indicative Programme 2021-2027. The 30-staff Cooperation Section is divided in four teams: Head of Cooperation Office, Governance, Infrastructure and Green Growth. The Section deals with the implementation of the Global Gateway in Kenya and with the Team Europe approach.

Main tasks:

  • Actively contribute to the work of the Cooperation Section as part of the Head of Cooperation Office.
  • Support the Head of Cooperation Office on cross sector matters such as visitors’ mission panning, briefing papers and speeches, communication activities.
  • Support the Head of Cooperation Office in some administrative matters, such as note taking, drafting and cross-checking documents etc.
  • Help in coordinating relations with EU Member States and other stakeholders on cooperation matters.
  • Occasionally help the sector Heads in the thematic Cooperation sections with support tasks
  • Fulfilling other duties, as required.

Qualifications or special requirements:

Cooperation Section Trainee:

  • Hold a university degree, and have a proven interest in the field of international relations;
  • Be keen to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Be a team player and good communicator;
  • Familiarity with the way the EU works and general knowledge of the EU is a major advantage;
  • Knowledge of second European language besides English is an advantage.

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must undertake to apply for a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.

The Delegation informs that even if our Headquarters confirm the eligibility of the selected candidate, traineeships could be postponed, suspended or even cancelled considering the context of the COVID-19 in the host country as well as in the country of origin where applicable.
