Role Qualifications
- TSC registration
- Passion for the value of innovative, non-traditional, differentiated education
- Ability to teach children of varying ages, needs, and abilities in the same classroom
- Strong academic observation and diagnostic skills
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate and coordinate effectively across learners, team members and parents
- Exceptional written and spoken English
- Fluent in Kiswahili
- Ability to adapt, multitask, keep calm under pressure, act with integrity, and treat everyone with respect
Preferred Experience
- Leading afterschool clubs
- Previously was deputy head or head of a department
- Special credentials in literacy such as phonics training
- Enjoys teaching math for grades 1-3
- Worked with special needs children or has credentials teaching special needs
Lead Teacher Role Description
You will support the growth of Oyana school by:
- Proactively monitoring the welfare and development of every child in your care, following Oyana policies and procedures to ensure their physical and emotional safety at all times
- Administering assessments and collecting data to regularly evaluate student progress against curriculum goals and informing future lesson plans and curriculum implementation
- Setting an inspiring example for learners and coworkers through everyday implementation of Oyana values by being respectful, adaptable, inclusive, sustainable and exemplary (RAISE)
- Developing lesson plans, learning exercises, curricula, and instructional methods that cater to the needs and progress of individual learners
- Recording and reporting on students’ progress
- Attending faculty and parent-teacher meetings
- Creating and maintaining a safe, clean and stimulating learning environment while ensuring classroom inventory remains organized, hygienic and accounted for
- Proactively ordering classroom supplies and communicating classroom maintenance needs to school administrators
- Developing rapport and maintaining clear lines of communication with parents, inclusive of leading parent-teacher conferences
- Supervising and monitoring daily activities of assigned classroom support staff, inclusive of leading annual performance evaluations for assigned staff members
- Communicating, consulting and cooperating across Oyana staff to ensure smooth school operations
- Participating in school wide functions including staff and parent meetings, professional development activities, and field trips
- Eating all meals with children and supporting the development of good nutrition, hygiene, toileting and socialization skills
- Assisting with interviews, orientation and training of new teachers
Skills of Successful Applicants
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with kids
- Knowledge of early childhood education teaching techniques
- Knowledge of child development theory and practice
- Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, testing, and/or teaching methodologies
- Ability to exercise control and maintain classroom discipline
- Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children
