GIZ, the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, provides services worldwide in the field of international technical cooperation, In Kenya, it has been active since 1964, and up to now implements programs in a wide variety of areas, including economic development, green energy, governance, food security, and peace and security. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is our main commissioning party, but we also work closely with the private sector, fostering successful interaction between development policy and foreign trade. In the framework of the German Development Cooperation (GDC), GIZ cooperates closely with the German Development Bank, Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau, KfW, and other agencies.
In order to ensure safety and security of its Kenyan and international staff and its projects, GDC has set up a Security Risk Management Office, SRMO, situated in Nairobi, but providing services to staff and projects all over Kenya. In order to fulfil its tasks, the SRMO Kenya runs an Operations Room, OPS, which serves as a centre for emergency response as well as for collecting, compiling and analysing security relevant information on a 24/7 basis.
Responsibilities
The position holder is responsible for;
- supporting the Security Risk Management Office in ensuring safety and security of staff,
projects and items of GIZ, KfW and specifically defined German organizations in Kenya. - ensuring an ongoing participatory and cooperative workflow between all involved institutions, individuals and the Security Risk Management Office.
- drafting analysis and developing of scenarios in regard to planning of security measures and processes
In this context, the technical professional performs the following tasks:

Security Risk Management
- prepares security specific reports and analysis, including incident mapping and security alerts in close cooperation with the SRM.
- Assists in developing and researching conflict and context analysis as well as tools for early mitigation.
- Provide ad hoc analysis support where need be;
- Biweekly updates on developments in Kenya
- Regularly evaluates GIZ/KfW’s operational risk exposure in cooperation with the Senior SRMA;
- Supports the compilation and implementation of emergency plans;
- Supports the regular execution of site security assessments (SSA) of residential and office space as well as travel security advice in collaboration with the Senior SRMA and the SRMA;
- Provides support to GIZ and KfW project managers as well as staff in matters of safety and security, on the spot and on long term;
- Ensures regular information sharing among all Security Risk Management Advisors
and the Operations Officers, including feeding of information into data bases; - Is available outside office hours in case of emergencies.
Other duties / additional tasks
The position holder
- Designs and updates SRMO information and communication products as well as the
SRMO KE section on IDA; - Performs any other duties and tasks at the request of the Senior SRMA resp. her
deputy; - Deputizes the Senior SRMA as well as her deputy upon assignment.
Required qualifications, competences and experience.
- Bachelor in peace and conflict studies, security studies, sociology, or any other relevant field, or highly relevant working experience in a comparable position
- Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, e-mail, internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
- Fluent written and oral knowledge of English and Swahili
- Experience in working with GIZ is an added advantage.

- Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management.
- Ability to work very precisely.
