Job Vacancies at APHRC: Field Interviewers for AfriFOODlinks Project

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is looking for both qualitative and quantitative field interviewers for its AfriFOODlinks Project. The project aims to improve food environments for urban consumers, schools, and food retailers in Kisumu through real-world experimentation.

The project will conduct a mixed methods cross-sectional study involving collection of both quantitative and qualitative data in Kisumu in October and November 2023.

Qualitative Field Interviewers

As a qualitative field interviewer, you will be responsible for:

  • Recruiting participants using pre-defined eligibility criteria
  • Obtaining and documenting informed consent/assent from the study participants prior to the interviews
  • Moderating/ facilitating qualitative interviews and stakeholder workshops with various people at the national, subnational, community, market and school level
  • Taking notes and compiling comprehensive qualitative interview debriefing notes

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition, Social Sciences or Health related fields
  • Proven experience and skills in qualitative research methods (conducting FGDs, IDIs and/or KIIs)
  • Ability to facilitate and moderate group discussions in English and Swahili
  • Experience in note taking during qualitative interviews
  • Proven experience in qualitative data collection in low-income settings

Quantitative Field Interviewers

As a quantitative field interviewer, you will be responsible for:

  • Identifying and recruiting participants based on pre-defined eligibility criteria
  • Conducting quantitative data collection in the assigned study sites
  • Completing, editing and submitting all assigned interviews for cross-checking and verification by the team leader on a daily basis
  • Reviewing the collected data to ensure all questions are complete prior to online submission
  • Following up with participants for missing responses or correcting any inaccurate responses
  • Ensuring the safety of all assigned study tools and equipment

To qualify for this position, you must have:

  • Completed secondary education and possess a minimum grade C Plain in KCSE
  • Proven experience in quantitative data collection in low-income settings
  • Experience in public health and or nutrition surveys
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications
  • Experience in using electronic data capture methods like digital recorders and survey CTO or open data kit (ODK)
  • Preferably a resident of Nyalenda or Manyatta the study sites or has knowledge of the study sites
