About GCA

The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is an international organization dedicated to accelerating climate change adaptation efforts worldwide. Founded in 2018, we operate globally with offices in Rotterdam, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Bangladesh, and Beijing, as well as a knowledge hub in Groningen, the Netherlands. Our mission is to support adaptation solutions at both international and local levels, particularly for communities most vulnerable to climate impacts.

The Role

The External Affairs team serves as GCA’s bridge to the global community, fostering strategic relationships with governments, international organizations, and financial institutions. As an intern, you’ll support diplomatic engagements, stakeholder management, and the organization of high-level events and political summits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diplomatic Support: Communicate with diplomatic missions, maintain contact databases, and assist in stakeholder relations
  • Event Coordination: Help organize and implement high-level climate events, including logistical preparations
  • Meeting Documentation: Attend meetings, take detailed notes, and prepare meeting minutes with clear action items
  • Briefing Materials: Draft diplomatic communications and prepare materials for external engagements
  • Climate Monitoring: Track and report on climate adaptation news and global affairs developments

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in international relations, politics, economics, journalism, or related field
  • Demonstrated interest in international relations, development, or climate diplomacy with adaptation focus
  • Strong communication, research, analysis, and writing skills
  • Fluency in English (French is an advantage)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of multilateral protocol and diplomatic communication
  • Understanding of climate adaptation issues in vulnerable regions
